News1130 Staff VANCOUVER (NEWS1130)  | Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 7:40 am ”

These three links all cover the same story.
They cover the findings of students at the University of British Columbia who were creating a documentary called “Frontline Ghana - Digital Dumping Ground”.

The reason this report is so alarming is simple. One of the Hard Drives that was uncovered was originally from U.S. Defence Contractor Northrop Grumman and it had sensitive information still on the drive. The Hard Drive included: sensitive information about hiring practices, credit card numbers and family photos.

Data Security is a very real concern. If a criminal had access to a drive like this, it could have been used to gather personal info about for identity theft including credit card information, social security numbers and much more.

A company can get in a lot of trouble and have to pay a very hefty price for not properly destroying data. Undestroyed Data cannot go into a trash bin!

Vernon Technology Solutions has a simple solution to the problem.
The Vernon Hard Disk Crusher.
See it in Action

  2. Data breaches has been increasing at an alarming rate and there seem to be no slowing down in sight. Stiffer penalties must be enforced by law.
